16/9/25 Set – Rehearsal For Surbiton Festival + FAB Concert News

Thanks to everyone who came to the last session’s FAB concert – Connie from FAB said we raised £445 so great work! If anybody wants to share any photos or videos from the night please get in touch. I thought we played really well and it was brilliant to have all the audience singing along.

Next up is a return to the Surbiton Festival on the 27th. I’ve just heard we are likely to be on at 12pm on the Claremont Stage for 45 mins, but I will confirm all the details closer to the time.

I’ve picked a different set to last year, but have kept a few from the FAB gig because they are already well rehearsed. They are all good sing-a-long tunes hopefully! I’ll whittle it down a bit after Tuesday’s session.

Cecilia, Country Roads, Dedicated Follower Of Fashion, Delilah, Every Day, Five Hundred Miles, Help, Hi Ho Silver Lining, Honky Tonk Women, Hound Dog, I Wanna Be Like You, King of The Road, Proud Mary, Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head, See You Later Alligator, Sit Down

Pics from the 10 year do, set for the 10th June (not the 27th May!), Surbiton Festival date….

Hi everyone

Here are a couple of pictures from the other day

From our 10th anniversary session! 13/5/25

It was a really fun evening, thanks everyone. Nice to have a chat in the pub afterwards too!

There is no session on the 27th of May, Beth and I are away.

So we will be back in June on the 10th. We’re up to ‘M’ now in our epic alphabetical trek through the repertoire. I will try to add a new one at some point but for now this is what to expect –

Mad World – Maggie May -Make You Feel My Love – Malt and Barley Blues – Maxwell’s Silver Hammer – Minnie The Moocher – Money – Mr Blue Sky – Mr Bojangles – – Mr Tambourine Man – Mrs Robinson – Mull Of Kintyre – My Way – Nights In White Satin – Nine To Five – Non Je Ne Regrette Rien

In gig news we are booked for the Surbiton Festival on Saturday 27th September so keep it free. We will also hopefully do another Fight Against Blindness charity set at the start of September (date tbd), plus we have the Epsom WI Xmas gig on the 3rd Dec at 2 30pm

See you soon

Chris

10 Year Anniversary Evening – 13/5/25

Hi everyone

Here are the ten songs for the 13th in the correct order –

Little Richard Medley – See You Later Alligator – King Of The Road – Dedicated Follower Of Fashion – I’ll Never Fall in Love Again – Proud Mary – Jolene – Urban Spaceman – Stuck In The Middle With You – Five Hundred Miles

We will aim to start at 8pm so try to get there a little earlier if you can. Judith from the church asked me if we could not overfill the car park that night, so leave at least a few spaces for the other church users. There is plenty of parking on the roads either side of the church, plus the main road too.

Then we will play through the tunes to whatever audience is there – we currently have about 15 to 18 people coming so have room for more! (Feel free to encourage/guilt trip your friends and family.) Drop me a line if you have a few coming so I can keep tabs on the numbers.

After we’ve played we will pop over the road to the pub for a quick drink and a chat.

If you are reading this and have not been down to the sessions for a while then by all means come along and join in or just come and watch. Or if you are thinking about joining us for the first time this could be a good night to check out what we do!

Set for the 1st April 25

Hi everyone, here is the set for next week –

I’ll Fly Away, I’ll Never Fall In Love Again, I’m Into Something Good, I’m A Believer, If Paradise Is Half As Nice, In the Summertime, The Irish Rover, It Must Be Love, It’s My Party, Jailhouse Rock, Jambalaya, Jealous Guy, The Joker, Jolene, Jonny B Goode, Jumping Jack Flash

All the songs can be found here. I will bring plenty of paper copies for everyone.

The 10 year anniversary session will be happening on the 13th May, but we are actually going to do it at the Church as opposed to changing the venue. Sorry to anyone who said the 13th was difficult for them, it just ended up that more people were going to be around for the later date. I will need to get an idea of how many there will be in the audience at some point, please let me know if you have people coming so I can get an idea of numbers (we are limited to about 30). Also I’ve been asked by Judith from the church if we can get the audience to park on the street as opposed to in the church car park…..

We’ve had an enquiry from the Epsom and Ewell branch of the W.I. –

“Would some of your players be able to come and play to our W.I. Meeting on DECEMBER 3rd 2025 – at 2.30pm at The Methodist Church, Ashley Rd.Epsom”.

They want our Christmas tunes! I’m happy to commit to it if I can get a positive response from enough people with the intention to be there. I appreciate it is a while away but let me know if you are up for it at least in principle…..

18/3/25 -The i’s have it…..

Hi everyone, here is the set for next Tuesday, see if you can spot the theme

I Can See Clearly Now, I Don’t Want to Talk About It, I Feel Good, I Feel Like I’m Fixing To Die, I Fought The Law, I Got My Mind Set On You, I Heard It Through the Grapevine, I Only Want To Be With You, I Saw Her Standing There, I Saw The Light, I Say A Little Prayer, I Walk The Line, I Wanna Be Like You, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, *Killing Me Softly*

Obviously Killing Me Softly doesn’t fit the theme, but it’s a nod to Roberta Flack who died the other day.

All of the set can be viewed here, I will bring plenty of spare paper copies on the night.

New members are very welcome to come and play or sing a long!

Set for 18th Feb 25 CANCELLED

Update – Beth and I have got whatever lurgy that is flying about at the minute so think it is probably best if we cancel Tuesday’s session. The set list will carry over to next time (4th March).

Sorry and see you soon.

Hi all, here is the set for the 18th with one new tune – ‘Gimme Some Loving‘. This was suggested and helpfully written out by Colin although I’ve changed the key to (E). It may require a couple of goes to get it right! The original was by Spencer Davis (in G) but if you want to practise in (E) you can play along with the Blues Brothers. We’ll try to do the hammond organ/brass riff on Kazoos…..

Every Day – Five Hundred Miles – The Galaxy Song – Great Balls of Fire – Handbags and Gladrags – Happy Together – Help – Honky Tonk Women – Hotel California – Hound Dog – House of the Rising Sun – And then I Kissed Her – Annie’s Song – California Dreaming – Gimme Some Loving

See you on Tuesday

Session on the 21/1/25
